About the Step-Up SIP Calculator

Our free Step-Up SIP Calculator helps mutual fund investors project wealth accumulation when increasing their monthly Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) contributions by a fixed percentage every year.

How Step-Up SIP Works

A step-up SIP (or top-up SIP) automatically increases your investment amount annually in alignment with salary increments or rising income levels. The compounding future value for each year's adjusted monthly installment sequence is aggregated as:

$$FV = \sum_{yr=1}^{n} \sum_{m=1}^{12} P_{yr} \times (1 + i)^{\text{remaining months}}$$

Where:

  • P_{yr}: Monthly investment amount during a given year
  • i: Monthly rate of return ($\text{Annual Rate} \div 12 \div 100$)
  • Step-Up: The percentage increase applied to $P$ at the start of each subsequent year

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the advantage of a Step-Up SIP over a regular SIP?
A Step-Up SIP allows you to invest more as your income grows, helping you beat inflation, reach long-term financial goals much faster, and avoid lifestyle creep by saving incremental raises.
Can I change or cancel the step-up percentage later?
Yes, most fund houses and investment platforms allow you to modify or stop the annual step-up mandate anytime according to your financial situation.
Is there a recommended step-up percentage?
A standard step-up rate of 10% to 15% per annum is commonly recommended by financial advisors since it mirrors typical annual salary increments.
