About the NPS Calculator

Our free NPS Calculator helps subscribers of the National Pension System estimate their retirement wealth accumulation, lump sum withdrawal, and expected monthly pension payouts upon reaching age 60.

How NPS Corpus and Pension Are Calculated

The National Pension System builds a retirement corpus through compounding regular monthly contributions over your working career:

  • Corpus Accumulation: Calculated via monthly compounding over the tenure remaining until age 60 based on expected asset returns.
  • Annuity vs Lump Sum: Upon retirement, at least 40% of the accumulated corpus must be utilized to purchase an annuity (which provides regular monthly pension), while the remaining portion can be withdrawn tax-free as a lump sum.

How to Use the Calculator

Simply enter your pension planning parameters or adjust the range sliders:

  • Monthly Contribution: The amount you invest into your Tier-1 NPS account every month.
  • Current Age & Expected Returns: Your present age and projected annual compounding growth rate.
  • Annuity Allocation & Return: The percentage of the corpus allocated to purchase an annuity and its expected payout rate.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Is NPS withdrawal tax-free?
Yes, up to 60% of the total accumulated corpus withdrawn as a lump sum at retirement is completely tax-free. The remaining 40% (or more if chosen) used to purchase an annuity is tax-free at purchase, but the subsequent pension payouts are taxable as income.
Can I withdraw from NPS before age 60?
Premature exit is permitted after completing 3 consecutive years, but withdrawals are restricted (at least 80% must be used for an annuity, and only 20% can be withdrawn as cash). Full exits are allowed under specific life events like severe illness or higher education of children.
What are the tax benefits of investing in NPS?
Contributions up to ₹1.5 Lakhs are eligible for tax deductions under Section 80CCD(1), and an additional exclusive deduction of up to ₹50,000 is available under Section 80CCD(1B).
